Why was the "Explore Catalogs" Feature removed from Whats Interesting?
A few years ago when I completely rewrote the Whats Interesting Feature in KStars, one of the things I really wanted to do was to add a feature that you could use to explore all the objects in the Messier Catalog, the NGC Catalog, and maybe others too. Then you could look at each object in the catalog one after the next to explore what's in there. Most planetarium programs just show what's in the sky now or certain objects from the catalogs they find interesting. While I agree that this is important and is the point of the top half of the Whats Interesting window, I wanted to provide a feature that would let you explore the catalogs, which was the point of the bottom half. In fact it was probably the main reason I wanted to revise the what's interesting feature because I had seen many of the brighter objects and wanted to explore some lesser known ones in the catalog. I did successfully add this feature and it has been a part of KStars for several years now. In a recent commit, the "Explore Catalogs" feature, in fact the whole bottom half of What's Interesting was simply deleted. I was wondering if there was a reason for that or if it was an oversight and if it can be restored.
