For example, if my {COMMENT} tag has a return in it, when I export (either to clipboard or to file), the return ends the tag and the remaining string will start a new row of tag values, which fails to then import correctly.
For example, if TRACK 1's {COMMENT} is:
Red
Blue
export will only put "Red" in the {COMMENT} value. "Blue" will then be placed in the next row, column 1—where TRACK 2 should start—followed by the remaining values, like {DURATION} and {ALBUM ARTIST}. TRACK 2 will then start in the 3rd row.
This makes import fail. I have tried a few different export formats, even using a comma delimiter to edit in Excel/Numbers, but both weren't viable solutions.
The solution, for now, is to use the copy/paste tag feature for each individual track.
Would it be possible to allow mulit-line tags?
Great app and thanks.

But kid3-cli uses the apostrophe to indicate end of command.
So is there a way to do it? I tried substituting all the single apostrophes with curly single apostrophe but Windows shows some three character unicode noise instead of the proper symbol.
Is there a way to pre-pend the ' (like &') so it won't be taken as the end of the -c 'set ...' command and instead be used as part of the string???
Thanks.

I am attempting to add tags to freshly encoded .oga files. kid3 reads the files and creates the tags, but can't write the file. It errors with "Error while writing file".
The files were ripped from CD to FLAC using the drag-n-drop feature of KDE. They were then wrapped in Ogg by command line "flac --best --ogg *.flac", with the resulting files being .oga.
The music plays fine. The files are in my home folder and permissions are 664. Even running kid3 with sudo results in the error.
Any suggestions?

When...Hello,
First, thanks for an excellent program. It's made my music management
immeasurably easier across both Windows and Linux. I'd like to report
some unexpected behaviour when attempting to add cover art to Opus audio
files.
When using the kid3-cli 'set picture' command to add cover art to my
MP3, AAC, FLAC and Ogg Vorbis files, the selected art replaces existing
art. This is exactly the behaviour I desire. However if I use the same
command on my Opus files, the newer art is added to existing art;
running the command multiple times leads to multiple covers in a single
file.
Because I want to replace existing cover art, I tried to work around
this behaviour by emptying the picture frame first (using: kid3-cli -c
"select *.opus" -c "set picture ''" "*.opus"). Unfortunately, this
command has no effect on Opus files yet the same command works
flawlessly on MP3, AAC, FLAC and Ogg Vorbis files.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there another way to remove cover art
from Opus files?
Thanks in advance for any advice and thanks again for a great piece of
software.

I have successfully exported and imported ID tags to csv files in the past but, for some reason, of late it just hasn't been working for me.
Exporting is fine and the file can be opened in Gnumeric/LO Calc and I can make the changes.
But then when I try to import the file, nothing happens.
I don't have complicated tags - just track number, title, artist, album, genre.
I'm not sure if I haven't messed up the %-expressions in the 'track' field at either the export or import stage - what is the default for those?
Any help will be much appreciated.

I'm looking to write all my art to files. In kid3 I can use open directory to select the top directory, then filter>no art, then right click: expand folders, then select all, to get a list of all files with no embedded art. A good start.
I was going to start going through the files and getting the art from the internet when I realised:
A. I have art for most of the files in the folder (structure: [starting letter]/[artist]/[album]); do you know if it's possible to have kid3-qt write images to the mp3 tags if present, based on a query? Would this be something I have to do in kid3-cli? If Qt can do it, where would I write the query to have it work? I see that there's automatic import... can this be hacked to use local directories and search for album.jpg / cover.jpg / folder.jpg / front.jpg / %{albumname}.jpg, etc? (or failing that, the largest jpg in the folder?)
B. That Banshee stores all its auto-downloaded art in a cache folder. So if A works, and I run it for all my folders, and I still have art-less music where there are no images in the folder, I could run a script to grab the images from banshee's cache...
Thanks in advance for any tips!

Essentially I can't reach the required data in these files with Kid - and the only solution at the moment is to blow away the tags and re-create them (as per my previous reply in our other thread). There are however (it seems) several hundred files in this state - and you may be interested to handle this in your code. (and of course you may not :-) ) What would be excellent is to flag up and offer the option of surgically removing a frame you can't handle. I'd be quite happy to send over a test file if there was a way to corrupt the music data and not contravene copyright somehow.

However, the quality of the Sound Check algorithm is not as good as R128 algorithm. Therefore I have used R128 against around 30,000 AIFF music files. This metadata is written into a tag called "Volume Level (R128)". I want to extrapolate that value into a sound check hex value and write the resultant into a tag called iTunNORM. And I want to do it concurrently for 30,000 files. I can successfully create the tag in the editor and it works fine. But I am not sure how to go about the value conversion - if that sort of thing is implemented.
Because of the possibility that I ask too much! I investigated exporting all my tags to en excel spreadsheet. Calculating the new values there and importing them again. But I stopped work on that project once I realised that I was restricted to a single directory for the operation. See my other post on subdirectories. Thanks.
