Copying tags from one set of files to a completely un-named set
I have read the threads on a similar topic and they don't answer my question, so here goes.
I am trying to copy the tags from one set of files, which are fully named and tagged, to a set of files containing the same audio that are completely untagged and not named properly. (The purpose is to tag files easily where I have previously tagged a set of files, but now obtained the audio in a different format, e.g. mp4 > flac, higher bitrate or whatever, without entering them from scratch or laboriously copying them one at a time.)
I can highlight the original files, go to File > Export... > (Format: CSV unquoted, Source: Tag 2, To File... file.csv) This creates a tab-separated file with the tag information I want plus the playing times.
I then highlight the new files, and go to File > Import. It seems I should then be able to open the CSV file, click Match with: Length, and it should tag the right files, using the times to determine which is which. However, I can not make this import window do anything at all. I've tried using the clipboard instead of a file, and have tried all the different matching options. The only time it does anything is if I attempt to re-tag the original files which were the source of the tags (then it matches 100%!)
I could use the alternate Export and Import options available by right clicking, but this creates a file with pathnames. I would have to change these in an editor to the temporary filenames before I could import them. That rather defeats the object. I want to be able to select the new set of files and apply the new tags. I don't even need the automatic matching; I'm happy to ensure the files are in the correct order. But as it stands I can't import any tags using the File > Import menu.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks in advance!
