Use thumbnail to speed up display of full-screen image

My Matrix server has a very slow upload bandwidth these days. Moreover, some images can get pretty huge.

When clicking on an image in the timeline, I am presented with a white fullscreen window. It would be nice to display the thumbnail as a placeholder at least, maybe with a progress bar below if feasible.
