Better Interaction with Widgets on Plasma Desktop

Currently the interaction with desktop plasmoids is limited. It only happens when you enter edit mode. This makes it so the user cannot interact with the plasmoid at any other time. The plasmoid cannot be dragged, rotated, or enlarged because of this.

Also in edit more we seem to have 2 methods of interacting with the plasmoid, through the dots that appear around the plasmoid when editing and through the bar to the side of the plasmoid. I feel this provides a confusing experience for the user. We should probably consolidate the interaction methods to make it more effective.

My proposal is:

  • Allow dragging, rotation and resizing when not in edit mode
  • Remove helper bar for plasmoids and use helper buttons, like in our galleries for System Settings
  • Keep add/remove plasmoids in edit mode
