Set number of cores to use for compilation to available number -1
For example, on an 8 core system, kdesrc-build would use 7 cores. The reason for this would be to keep at least one core active so that the system remains responsive while compiling. Otherwise it can easily become unresponsive and that's a pain in the butt when you're using kdesrc-build all day while also developing.
I have an 8-core system and have manually set make-options -j7
in my config file, and realized that this tweak might benefit other people too such that it could be a good idea to do automatically.
We would need to set a floor of 1, of course. :) To handle single-core VM compilation, I suppose.
