Evaluate alternative software for the Community Forums
Over the past few years it has become evident that the existing software used to run the KDE Community Forums (located at forum.kde.org) is no longer adequate for the needs of the overall community.
It is also significantly out of date, and only compatible with PHP 5.4, which presents a significant long term risk.
We therefore need to migrate to either the latest version of the current software, or look into evaluating replacement software. One of the more often suggested options has been Discourse.
This issue is intended to:
- Collect a list of requirements that Forum software should fulfil
- Collect a list of software packages that we should evaluate
- Determine how critical certain items are to the operation of the KDE Community Forums (such as importing existing content, how it is structured, etc)
