DurationSlider small improvements to code

Just renamed some ids and only reference ids when necessary.

Also the fourth commit fixes something I broke a year ago (didn't realise until now). Since no one seems to have complained on the bug tracker, is it worth keeping the current behaviour (before this MR) or going back to the old behaviour (with this MR)?
