Pretty easy to eat 8 GB of RAM
I noticed that Kdenlive begins to eat RAM very quickly after the project becomes much more complicated (more tracks are added, many small clips on the timeline). Here is an example:
- Clips Used in project: 2.6 GiB
- Unused: 1.1 GiB
- Summary: 56 video files
- Length of full project on timeline - 10 min
- 15 Video tracks (only 3 enabled, the rest are all kinds of scenes and other garbage that does not go to release and as a rule these tracks are always off)
- 15 Audio Tracks.
- Clips are cut into the timeline quite finely, the average duration of a clip is 5-10 seconds
- Proxy Clips not used.
- Preview Resolution does not affect the speed of eating memory.
- Track Compositing - None.
- There are no effects at all. Except 5-8 fade in - fade outs.
- about 10 clips are slow or reversed.
Before Kdenlive Run used ~3GB RAM But after load project and watching full release video (10 m) Used RAM = 7 GB If you work at least 15 minutes more by reviewing any fragments, adjusting the clips, changing the fades, then the RAM will end completely and SWAP will start to be consumed and after that everything will start to slow down terribly both Kdenlive and other applications. At first I thought that if you disable the swap, Kdenlive will begin to use RAM more efficiently and after the experiment, I saw that after the RAM were completed, my PC simply froze. Even the mouse cursor hangs.
By the way, another fairly simple way to quickly spend RAM is rendering video previews or just rendering to a file.
