UI Suggestion: Auto-tick tickboxes on Edit
I find that when using kid3, I tend to select multiple files, edit fields and then click 'Save'. Often, I fail to set the tickbox beside the fields that I have edited. When I click Save, my edits are lost, and the display refreshes the original metadata from the file.
I find this behaviour contrary to what I expect -- I feel that clicking 'Save' should write any changes that I have made in memory to the disk. In terms of current kid3 functionality, this would equate to the tickboxes being automatically ticked whenever a field is edited by the user.
I feel that edits made by users should rank greater importance than file contents. There is a 'Revert' function, which allows for mistakes to be undone, so why do the tickboxes get de-selected?
Possible changes:
- Auto-tick boxes for fields that the user edits.
- Preserve current functionality, except where fields have been edited without the tickbox checked, When Save (or others) is clicked, preserve the edits in the panel, indicating to the user that the changes have not yet been applied to the file (a change in colour of the box or similar).
