Attempting to use program for translating subtitles, but so far it's very cumbersome
Hello,
I'm looking for a way to quickly and efficiently translate subtitles for interviews/documentaries, so the timing of the subtitles is secondary to its content. The thing is that I need to translate the subs in "normal" text form, else deepl.com is having troubles with line breaks and the result is vastly inferior. So far my workflow looks like this:
- Open srt file of the original subtitles
- new translation
- paste the full translated text into the first translation line
- save and open the new translation
- manually play around with right click split and join lines until an aesthetically acceptable result is reached
- use times -> set automatic durations and pray for something useful
This worked twice, but now with the third language suddenly i'm getting two 10 sec and one 25 sec pauses between lines for no apparent reason. Somehow it suddenly refuses to evenly distribute the duration of lines.
Am I missing something? Is there a more efficient way to do this? Could this be scripted by a noob?
Thanks in advance,
arcsaber
