Shortcuts can possibly destroy work
I raised this issue with Mladen directly, but he suggested I post it here for others to see:
Up to now, I used right-click to add new subtitles (above or below) and I simply don't seem to learn that I need to change input focus back to the editing area. It happens to me frequently that I click insert, start typing (while looking at my keyboard), then look at my screen and find nothing has been entered.
This in itself is not a huge problem. Mladen also pointed out that I can use the INS key to insert and still retain focus. (I just have to learn to do that automaticcally!)
But there is one unintended outcome of the above that I think needs to be addressed. The following happened to me more than once:
- Inserted a new subtitle via right-click
- Started typing, but forgot to change focus (because I cannot type blind and need to look at my keyboard)
- Realised mistake, clicked in the editing area and typed the text again.
- Clicked "Safe"
- Realised something went seriously wrong: Half of my subtitles were suddenly timed at 00:00:00.000 and the others were completely out of sync.
- Last backup (via "Save As...") was done about an hour ago, so a whole hour of my work was wasted. :-(
I do not know which keyboard shortcut I accidentally triggered. To my mind, I was simply typing and was shocked by the catastrophic consequences.
One clue may be the fact that I need to enter special characters in German and I defined additional shift keys on right-Ctrl and AltGr.
But still, I do not think this should happen.
