Video Player crashes Subtitle Composer
Hi,
I am working under Linux Mint Debian Edition 5. My clients often send me MOV files to subtitle, which run fine in Celluloid (the video player that comes with LMDE) and in vlc as well.
However, under Subtitle Composer, they seem to cause trouble: No WAV form is generated and under "Current Position" the reading looks scrambled with random characters.
This is why I am using WinFF to convert the videos into another format, usually MP4.
At first, these new videos run OK, but then Subtitle Composer suddenly becomes unresponsive and disappears a few seconds later (crashed). This happens relatiely far into the material, about 30 minutes.
If I reload my work and the video, it crashes again exactly at the same spot.
I can use WinFF to convert the video into another format, such as FLV or 3GP. These crash as well, but at different positions from MP4, which means after each crash, I have to select a different format to get beyond the crash zones.
Also, the more often I reload the videos, the more meaningless the WAV form becomes. It starts to show sound where there is none and vice versa. This makes my work more difficult as I can no longer place my subtitles exactly where they should be.
I should stress that this happens with MOV files from very different clients, so it is not just one client that sends me buggy material. I also tried this out on different computers, so it is not a specific performance issue.
Can this video player issue be looked into, please? I would love to send you video samples, but I am working with copyrighted material and am bound by non-disclosure agreements.
Many thanks.
