Overview: Search Priority Setting

Relevant bug: Bugzilla Bug 460710

The search priority setting lets users choose between prioritizing either window filtering or the application search in the Overview effect. This improves the experience for users who use the search field primarily to open new applications, while maintaining the current behavior for everyone else.

  • The default setting matches the current behavior, where windows are filtered according to the query and if there are no matches, an option to open a new application is shown.
  • If the setting to prioritize the application search is activated, the Overview effect will search for applications by default and will only filter windows if there are no matches in the application search.
