Reviving Plasma Mobile blog
Let's discuss what we need/want to do to revive the Plasma Mobile blog on the official website.
The way I see it we have two main options:
- Try to look through the backlog of everything happened since the 5th of May (last blog entry) and make a comprehensive (as possible) report on what has happened since then
- Acknowledge that we missed some stuff but say that we'll try to continue more regular blogs from this point onwards and just live with the fact that not everything went documented
I like the idea of a fully comprehensive blog post more, but my experience tells me that this might take a lot longer and more work and we may want to settle for something doable instead of trying too much and then failing to bring something out in time, so my rational side leans towards making something smaller that may not cover everything. However, we may need to do something comprehensive anyways since having a (more or less) full changelog for the first Plasma 6 based release of Plasma Mobile is probably important and then we get most of the info for a comprehensive blog post for free as well.
Regardless of which approach we go for, I'd want to have a strong focus on talking about the move to Qt6 and what that entails and offers, but that also depends on how many feature changes we have to report on.
Then of course the obvious "please help contribute notice", but maybe put that further up the post? The most recent ones had that as the last paragraph and I feel like we may want that more prominent? And to help things along, maybe have a list of potential areas that could be worked on as examples so people have an idea of what could need to be done. Stuff like "help test new changes", "work on the Qt framework upgrade" etc, maybe even some actionable items? It could help catch people's interest as a "oh yeah, I think I would like to have that work".
Also: How much do we want to talk about app updates? I think it's important even though they got their own changelog now in the KDE Gear releases, but to shine a light on the mobile focused ones and a concise list of highlight changes would still be great I think - just thinking of a user who wants to know what is new with that OS and since at least the core apps on a phone are IMO considered part of the OS it should be relevant for that.
PS: We should probably also put some thought into how we intend to continue after the first new blog post so we make sure the blog doesn't die immediately after again - with the amount of people working on Plasma Mobile specifically (from what I've gathered) we should probably stay realistic and not try to do too much - some blog posts are better than none.
